Cetshwayo, King of the Zulus. Was born near eShowe ca 1826- Eshowe 1884. Came to power after the death of his father in 1872. 1873 Sir Theophilus Shepstone officially installed him as King. Ath the close of the war Cetshwayo was captured, taken to Cape Town and held in custody in the castle and at Oudemolem, a farm nearby. 1882 he visited London and was received by Queen Victoria, Returned to Zululand and was reinstated as King by Shepstone in 1883. Soon afterwards was attacked and defeated by uSibepu (uZibhebhu kaMaphitha). He died the following year.
